Description.Abstract
Abstract: As climate change issue became one of the most important global problems, carbon dioxide (CO2) mitigationplan has become an important agenda of many nations aroundthe world. Carbon pricing tools are the real market-basedinstruments, and they are suggested as an effectiveincentive for stakeholders to reduce the emission.Specifically, carbon tax (CT) is one of the carbon pricingtools. It is an easier mechanism to implement compared toCap and Trade (CCT) system due to administrative cost andprocedures. In Thailand, CO2 from transportation accountsfor about a quarter of all CO2 emissions. Starting from 1January 2016, new vehicle excise tax has come to beeffective for passenger vehicles, while road freightvehicle was still paid less attention on emissionreduction. In road transport activities, passenger androad freight vehicles share almost the same proportion ina global view. Hence, this study aims to assess theperspectives of logistics practitioners on diverse topicssuch as green logistics, utilization of electric vehicles(EVs), and carbon tax proposal including its possibilitiesand challenges to implement in order to incentivize theuse of EVs in road freight activities in Thailand.Qualitative survey was conducted for the perspectiveassessment. This study employed both descriptive (crosstabulation) and inferential (Chi Square test) statisticsto interpret and confirm relationship of the dependent andindependent variables of the survey. As a result, thestudy found that carbon tax proposal can be implemented inThailand for road freight activities through reformingrelated taxes and imposing emission fees. However, supports from key players such as logistics practitioners, logistics service users, automakers, and government arethe crucial input for this new proposal to become real
